POLITICAL DRAMA IN ENUGU: APC FOUNDERS DEFY MINISTER, BACK GOV. MBAH

Enugu, Aug. 12, 2025

The All Progressives Congress (APC) foundation members in Enugu State and the South-East have declared their full support for Governor Peter Mbah joining the party, countering opposition from Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.

Former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and APC founding member, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, issued the statement on Monday in Enugu, assuring Mbah and his supporters that they are “wholeheartedly welcomed” in line with party tradition.

This comes after Nnaji reportedly suggested that those eyeing the Enugu governorship should enter APC through a contest, a remark interpreted as discouraging Mbah’s move.

Okechukwu criticized Nnaji, noting that he himself defected from the PDP and performed poorly in past elections. He urged Mbah to ignore such comments, adding that APC needs his political strength to win Enugu’s Lion Building for the first time and secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“Gov. Mbah should not be scared by anybody,” Okechukwu said. “We want him on board to join 23 other APC-controlled states and deliver victory in 2027.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
