The Kogi State Police Command has completed a comprehensive training programme on weapon handling and marksmanship for 565 constables as part of efforts to improve operational efficiency, professionalism, and service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Afusat, the training commenced on April 13, 2026, and lasted for two months.

The statement explained that the programme was organised in line with the strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening the capacity of police personnel to tackle modern security challenges and improve public safety.

Speaking during the Passing-Out Parade held at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and commitment throughout the training period.

The police commissioner stated that the programme was designed to equip officers with practical skills in the safe handling, maintenance, and effective use of firearms while promoting professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Kankarofi stressed that the Nigeria Police Force must continue to invest in continuous capacity-building initiatives for young officers to ensure a more efficient and responsive policing system.

He also charged the graduating constables to remain disciplined and apply the knowledge acquired responsibly, noting that firearms entrusted to police personnel are meant strictly for the protection of lives and property.

The commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his commitment to personnel development and operational excellence, as well as the instructors and facilitators who contributed to the success of the programme.

He reaffirmed the Kogi State Police Command’s commitment to improving the competence of personnel through regular training and retraining programmes in line with the vision of building a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly police force.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
