POLICE SAFELY DEFUSE BOMB PLANTED AT TELECOM MAST IN BORNO
Operatives of the Borno State Police Command successfully defused an unexploded ordnance (UXO) planted beneath a network mast in Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri on Monday.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the EOD-CBRN Base 13 team responded after a report was received by the Divisional Police Officer at ITE Police Division.
“The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid, recorded another operational success with the recovery of an unexploded device in Maiduguri, averting a potential explosion and threat to public safety,” the statement read.
It added, “On Monday, 15th December 2025, at about 1106hrs, a report was received regarding a suspected explosive device discovered beneath a network mast at Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area. Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police immediately instructed the Commander of EOD-CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri to mobilize and proceed to the scene.”
The statement further explained, “The EOD-CBRN team swiftly responded, cordoned off the area, and, following standard operating procedures, successfully rendered the device safe. Preliminary assessment revealed the UXO, which had two protruding wires, was strategically placed by unknown individuals to cause serious damage. A hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes were also recovered at the scene.”
Following the operation, the police conducted safety awareness and sensitisation sessions for community members, highlighting the importance of vigilance, reporting suspicious objects promptly, and cooperating with security agencies to prevent breaches.
The spokesperson also said, “The Commissioner of Police has directed all Divisional Police Officers across the state to intensify patrols and strengthen security at critical public and private facilities, especially communication infrastructure, to prevent sabotage and ensure continued public safety.”
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while urging the public to provide timely and credible information. “While investigations are ongoing, the situation is under control, and normal activities have resumed. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant,” he added.
