POLICE RESCUE THREE ABDUCTED VICTIMS, RECOVER FIREARMS IN ENUGU

Three people abducted during a reported carjacking and kidnapping incident in Enugu State have been rescued by the state police command following a swift security operation. The operation also led to the recovery of two locally made firearms, ammunition and other items suspected to be connected to criminal activities.

The rescue operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit, with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group and other community members. According to the police, the operation followed credible intelligence received while officers were conducting crime-prevention patrols along the Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu.

The police said the intelligence was received at about 1:30 a.m. on August 18, 2026, after officers were alerted to the reported carjacking and abduction. Acting on the information, the operatives moved to intervene and launched efforts to track the suspected criminals and secure the release of the victims.

During the operation, security personnel recovered two locally manufactured firearms, ammunition and other exhibits. The recovery is expected to assist investigators as they work to establish the identities of those behind the kidnapping and determine whether the suspects are linked to other criminal incidents in the area.

The Enugu Police Command said the successful rescue demonstrates the importance of timely intelligence and cooperation between security agencies and residents. The involvement of community members also highlights the role of local information in helping security personnel respond quickly to threats and criminal activities.

The rescued victims are expected to receive necessary assistance as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the police are working to trace other individuals who may have participated in the operation and to determine the full circumstances surrounding the carjacking and kidnapping.
