POLICE RECOVER MOTORCYCLE STOLEN BY FAKE SOLDIER IN LAGOS
A commercial motorcyclist in Lagos, identified as Henry, has shared how a man dressed in military attire allegedly stole his motorcycle after deceiving him with a fake ATM card.
Henry explained that the incident occurred after the man hired him for a day-long ride across various locations in Lagos, offering to pay ₦8,000 for the service, with the trip ending at Command Road in Ayobo.
He said that around 10 p.m., while they were returning, the man requested a stop at a Point of Sale (POS) shop along Iyana Iba New Road to withdraw cash.
“But the moment I handed the ATM card to the POS operator, he quickly jumped on my bike and rode off,” Henry recounted.
This incident is reportedly one of many similar thefts involving suspects in military uniforms across Lagos.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, fortune smiled on Henry when he later spotted the suspect riding the stolen bike near First Gate, Igbo–Elerin, along LASU–Iyana Iba Road.
“An RRS patrol team nearby acted swiftly. On seeing Henry and the officers, the suspect, still in military gear, abandoned the motorcycle and fled,” Hundeyin said.
The motorcycle has since been recovered and returned to Henry. Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Hundeyin added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the culprit and ensure justice is served, warning that such impersonation and criminal acts will not go unpunished.
