POLICE RECOVER EIGHT DECOMPOSED BODIES IN CROSS RIVER, ARREST SUSPECT
The Cross River State Police Command has recovered eight dried corpses from a local mortuary in Isong Inyang Community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, confirming that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the discovery.
According to him, the incident occurred at an embalmment hall located along the Calabar–Ikom Highway on February 13, 2026.
“At about 11:56 a.m., credible information was received by the Police regarding the presence of corpses at the facility. Operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to verify the report. Upon arrival, eight well-dried corpses were discovered in the hall,” the statement read.
He added that swift police action led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Sunday Ben Reuben, a native of Nsit Ibom in Akwa Ibom State.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect is a mortician attached to Enghaut Company Mortuary, Akamkpa Local Government Area,” the police spokesperson said.
The suspect is currently in custody, while a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any laws were violated.
The Police Command appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from speculation, assuring that verified updates would be provided as investigations progress.
