Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers following a successful raid on a hotel in the Akala area of Mushin, allegedly being used as a criminal hideout.

According to police reports, the operation was launched after officers sighted four suspected robbers around 10 a.m. on Friday at Empire Junction by Jibonwu.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrests, revealing that firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items were recovered during the raid. She explained that while three suspects fled upon sighting the officers, one suspect, Toheeb Adeboye, aged 21, was intercepted and arrested.

“A search on him led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel cut-to-size gun, an English Barreter pistol with two 9mm live ammunition, and one locally made pistol with ten live cartridges, all concealed inside a bag,” Adebisi said.

During interrogation, Adeboye allegedly confessed that the gang had just completed a robbery operation in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, and were on their way to New Supreme Hotel, Akala, Mushin — their regular post-operation hideout.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police operatives raided the hotel, recovering more exhibits including a laptop, charms, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and hard drugs. Another gang member, Ajayi Adeniyi (33), was also arrested and found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol.

The police have since cordoned off the hotel, sealing it as a permanent crime scene, while the suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the command headquarters for further investigation.

Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, praised their professionalism and urged hotel owners across Lagos to conduct thorough background checks on guests to prevent criminal exploitation of their facilities.

He assured residents of the command’s continued commitment to public safety, advising Lagosians to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and report suspicious activities promptly.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
