The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer following a raid on a syndicate’s hideout in Amaowere-Nike, Enugu.

The operation, which took place on September 19, 2025, around 7am, was executed by operatives of the Unity Division in collaboration with Forest Guards, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

He said the raid on a container shop used for peddling narcotics was part of an intelligence-led crackdown ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.

“The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, Elias Ukachukwu Agu, 43, who confessed to selling illicit drugs,” Ndukwe stated.

Exhibits recovered include:

14 cups and 25 sachets of a substance suspected to be Canadian Loud

6 sachets of a substance suspected to be Colorado (Colos)

A weed crusher and two packets of Rizla papers.

Ndukwe confirmed that the suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, CP Giwa warned youths against drug abuse and reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained raids and community collaboration to dismantle narcotics networks in the state.

The raid follows a string of recent anti-drug operations in Enugu. In August 2025, NDLEA and police operatives dismantled a syndicate around New Artisan Market, seizing cannabis and methamphetamine. Similarly, in July 2025, police raided Ogbete Main Market, arresting three suspects with cannabis and bottles of codeine.

Authorities say the clampdowns are part of efforts to stem youth involvement in drug abuse, cultism, and violent crime.
