The Benue State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers, identified as residents of Mararaba in Nasarawa State and Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, who explained that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Orokam Police Division during a stop-and-search operation at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road.

The suspects were named as 21-year-old Mujahid Mohammed, 21-year-old Yahaya Abdullahi, and 28-year-old Kalipha Mohammad. Items recovered from them include a bag containing 34 assorted mobile phones, three HP laptops, and two MP3 players.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of a robbery gang responsible for terrorising the Orokam community in Benue and several areas in Enugu State. They admitted to carrying out raids on six flats in Umukasi and ten flats in the St. Theresa area of Nsukka, Enugu State.

The gang’s leader, 27-year-old Abba Mohammed, allegedly escaped with their weapons during the arrest and is currently at large. Police say efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with the Enugu and Gombe State Commands, to apprehend him, identify the rightful owners of the recovered items, and ensure proper prosecution after investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, praised the swift response of the patrol team and reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
