The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man accused of producing and circulating a fake kidnapping video designed to mislead the public and cause panic.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the video, which was widely shared on social media, did not depict a real abduction but was allegedly staged by the suspect and his associates.

Authorities said the footage sparked fear among residents and generated false security concerns before investigators traced its origin and identified those involved.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is being questioned as officers work to determine whether others participated in the production and distribution of the video.

The command warned against the creation and circulation of false content capable of inciting panic, stressing that such actions can obstruct legitimate security efforts and spread misinformation.

Police also urged residents to verify information through credible sources before sharing it online.

The case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media and the spread of fake security-related content in Ogun and across Nigeria.
