POLICE NAB 23-YEAR-OLD OVER ALLEGED DISTRIBUTION OF ‘SUCK AND DIE’ SUBSTANCE IN BAUCHI

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Aliyu Suleman, for alleged involvement in the distribution of harmful substances in the state.

Suleman, a resident of the Tudun Salmanu area of Bauchi, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Vehicle Crime Response Unit in Bayan Gari, Bauchi metropolis, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The police said the suspect was intercepted at about 5pm during the operation. A search conducted on him reportedly led to the recovery of 64 bottles containing Methylene Chloride, a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die,” as well as 17 pieces of rubber solution.

The Bauchi Police Command disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Nafiu Habib. According to the command, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to tackle drug abuse and protect public health in the state.

The recovered substances have been taken into police custody and registered as exhibits, while Suleman remains in detention as investigators continue to question him and gather further evidence.

The police said the suspect would be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s determination to disrupt the distribution and abuse of illicit drugs and other dangerous substances across the state.

He directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to strengthen surveillance and intensify operations against individuals and groups involved in the sale and abuse of harmful substances.

The command also urged parents, guardians and other community stakeholders to remain alert and promptly share useful information with security agencies to support efforts to combat drug abuse.

The police stressed that tackling substance abuse requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies, families and communities.
