In a strong show of force, the Nigerian government has announced major security successes across the country, revealing that 78 suspected terrorists were killed and 175 kidnapped victims rescued by the Nigerian Police within just one month.

This was made known by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, during a national joint security press briefing held in Abuja on Monday.

According to Issa-Onilu, the Nigerian Police carried out 326 coordinated operations across various states, leading to the arrest of 2,109 suspects and the dismantling of 62 criminal gangs.

However, the operations didn’t come without losses. The police reportedly lost 16 officers in the line of duty, while 49 civilians also lost their lives during various security incidents.

Among the weapons recovered were:

142 firearms

1,730 rounds of ammunition

The clampdown on drugs and contraband also led to the seizure of:

218kg of cannabis sativa

24 capsules of Tramadol

440 units of Exol

68 sachets of Pregabalin

146 bottles of “suck and die”

63 containers of “rubber solution”

On the smuggling front, 199 cartons of imported toothpaste were intercepted, alongside other items recovered during operations, including:

79 vehicles

10 tricycles

17 motorcycles

₦10.09 million in cash

Issa-Onilu emphasized that the government is not slowing down in its fight against crime.

“From the North-East to the Niger Delta, our security forces are reclaiming the peace—one operation at a time. Nigeria is fighting back—decisively and collaboratively,” he said.

He also sent a strong warning to criminals and those planning illegal activities: the federal government has intensified its crackdown, and no part of the country is being left out.

These figures reflect a renewed effort by security agencies to restore peace and maintain law and order nationwide.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
