POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF DELTA EDUCATION OFFICIAL
The Delta State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The investigation followed a complaint alleging that Adeda was assaulted during an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe said three aides to the commissioner were named in the complaint in connection with the alleged incident. One of them, Lucky Adoh, has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to locate Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine.
The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
According to the command, investigators will examine available evidence, including video recordings, eyewitness accounts and medical records, to establish what happened.
The police said the actions of everyone connected to the incident would be examined before determining whether anyone was culpable.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has constituted an eight-member panel with organised labour to independently examine the circumstances surrounding the death. The panel has two weeks to complete its assignment.
The police assured the deceased’s family that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without interference, while urging the public to remain calm until the process is concluded.
