POLICE HUNT LAGOS DRIVER AFTER REALTOR DIES IN PARKING DISPUTE
The Lagos State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a driver accused of killing a realtor, Yinka Agboola, during a heated dispute over a parking space at Royal Pine Estate on Orchid Road in the Lekki area of the state.
The tragic incident reportedly began when residents asked the driver to move his vehicle, which was blocking the road, to ease traffic flow. Eyewitnesses stated that he was offered an alternative parking space but reacted angrily.
According to witnesses, the suspect became hostile and returned to his vehicle, driving recklessly toward those gathered around. In an attempt to stop him, the 36-year-old Agboola reportedly held onto the steering wheel. The driver then sped off, dragging Agboola along before crashing him into a pavement.
Agboola sustained critical injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he remained in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit. Despite medical efforts, he passed away two days later, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is still at large; however, the vehicle involved has been recovered. “The command is aware of the unfortunate incident. The police traced the vehicle to the suspect’s residence, where it was found. The driver remains on the run,” Adebisi said.
She added that the vehicle, a white Mercedes-Benz, is currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera circulating online showed the suspect reversing dangerously, apparently attempting to ram into a group of people. Another clip captured the moment Agboola was struck by the vehicle as it sped away.
The news of Agboola’s death has sparked outrage and renewed calls for accountability. An X (formerly Twitter) user, @Omolomo, confirmed the tragedy in a post on Thursday, writing, “Oh my God, we lost him. He died in the early hours of today.”
Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect as investigations continue.
