Inter-agency consultative forum focuses on proactive threat mitigation, intelligence sharing, and curbing political violence across local government areas ahead of upcoming general elections

Security agencies operating in Plateau State, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have held a high-level consultative meeting with leaders of political parties to deliberate on election security frameworks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The strategic engagement brought together representatives of registered political parties, security chiefs, and electoral administrators to outline measures aimed at maintaining public order, preventing political violence, and guaranteeing a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the polls.

Addressing political party executives during the session, security commanders emphasized the critical need for inter-agency synergy, timely intelligence sharing, and strict adherence to the provisions of the Electoral Act regarding campaign activities and public rallies. Security chiefs cautioned political actors against inflammatory rhetoric, hate speech, and the deployment of political thugs, warning that law enforcement agencies will enforce a zero-tolerance policy against any breach of public peace.

INEC officials reaffirmed the commission's commitment to delivering a transparent and credible electoral process, stressing that establishing early security protocols with lead enforcement agencies and political stakeholders remains vital to protecting electoral personnel, materials, and voters across Plateau State.

Political party representatives present at the meeting assured security authorities of their cooperation, agreeing to foster peaceful political competition and sensitize their supporters against electoral violence as election preparations gather momentum.
