POLICE DISMISS UTME THREAT RUMOURS, DEPLOY SECURITY NATIONWIDE
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed rumours of threats to examination centres ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), describing the claims as unfounded.
In a statement, Force spokesperson Anthony Placid said the concerns, particularly those linked to a North Central state, had no credible basis.
Despite this, the police announced the deployment of enhanced security measures across all centres nationwide.
These include routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations to ensure the safety of candidates.
The police also confirmed collaboration with other security agencies to monitor and respond swiftly to any potential threats.
Candidates were advised to arrive early, comply with examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activity to security personnel.
The Force further warned against spreading unverified information, urging the public to rely only on official updates from authorities.
The UTME is conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and is scheduled to begin on April 16, 2026.
