The Edo State Police Command has arrested well-known activist Precious Oruche, popularly called Mama P.
Mama P, a strong supporter of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, was reportedly detained at the Edo State Police Criminal Investigation Department in Benin City.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday.
He wrote: “Mama P has been detained at the State CID, Edo State Police Headquarters, off Sapele Road, Benin City. I have just spoken to our Legal Director to deploy lawyers for her rescue. We want more people to join in her rescue effort. Lawyers and all concerned should please act immediately. We need everyone’s support for her NOW.”
Her arrest comes amid reports and counter-reports of a confrontation between Mama P and the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure.
