The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police Shehu Nadada to Imo State to coordinate efforts to rescue 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and other passengers abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.

The victims were abducted on Thursday, October 1, around Umunoha in Imo State, according to the Nigeria Police Force.

Nadada arrived in the state with two Commissioners of Police and conducted an assessment of the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

The police said additional tactical teams and operational assets had been deployed to identified areas as part of efforts to locate the victims and apprehend the suspects.

The operation is also being supported by intelligence gathering and coordination with other security agencies.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, and other senior security officials participated in the assessment of the operation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Iniedu, said the police remained committed to securing the safe release of the abducted persons.

He also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the rescue operation, assuring that such information would be treated confidentially.
