The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed rumours of an imposed curfew in the state, urging residents to remain calm amid growing panic following the recent abduction of students from a school in the area.

In a statement released on Friday, the police said no curfew has been declared in Oyo State or any of its communities. The command described the circulating reports as false and capable of causing unnecessary fear among the public.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the rumours of a curfew. There is no curfew in Oyo State. Go about your lawful activities without fear,” the statement read.

The denial comes after many residents, especially in Ibadan and surrounding towns, started limiting their movement in the evening due to fear sparked by the school kidnapping incident. Some areas recorded low human and vehicular activities as people stayed indoors.

Security agencies have intensified patrols across the state as efforts continue to rescue the abducted students. The police appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist in locating the victims and apprehending the kidnappers.

The Oyo State government also called for calm, assuring citizens that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The recent kidnapping has heightened insecurity concerns in the Southwest region, traditionally known for relative peace compared to other parts of the country. Many residents are now calling on the government to strengthen security measures, especially around schools and rural communities.

As the situation unfolds, the police have warned against spreading unverified information that could cause tension and unrest in the state.
