The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a suspect died in police custody at Ekpan Police Station, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the command said the allegation circulating on social media was “completely unfounded” and aimed at undermining ongoing efforts to combat crime in Delta State.

The viral report, attributed to activist Israel Joe, had claimed that a detained individual died in custody and accused the police of misconduct. However, the command insisted that no such incident occurred.

“At no time did any suspect die in police custody in Ekpan or any part of the state… no casualty was recorded,” the statement said.

The police clarified that the operation referenced involved coordinated raids carried out on March 25 and 26, 2026, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to the command, over 270 suspects were arrested across Ughelli and Warri, including suspected drug traffickers and wanted cultists, with large quantities of illicit drugs recovered. Those not found culpable were released, while others remain in custody in good condition.

The command described the spread of the report as reckless and capable of misleading the public, warning that individuals responsible for disseminating false information would be investigated and prosecuted.

Police authorities also urged residents to rely on official sources for accurate information while reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
