POLICE CRACKDOWN ON MOTORCYCLE THEFT, ARREST SUSPECTS IN ONDO
The Ondo State Police Command says it has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on motorcycle theft across the state, leading to the arrest of suspects and recovery of stolen motorcycles.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and protecting the livelihoods of residents.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi.
According to the statement, the operations underscore the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, tackling criminal networks, and safeguarding residents.
On April 9, 2026, police officers attached to the Funbi-Fagun Division arrested one Joseph James, 28, while allegedly attempting to move a stolen black Boxer motorcycle from the Sabo area of Ondo.
“The suspect was intercepted while attempting to move a stolen black Boxer motorcycle from the Sabo area of Ondo,” the statement said.
Police added that the motorcycle, valued at about ₦500,000 and reported stolen a day earlier, was immediately recovered.
“The motorcycle, valued at approximately ₦500,000 and reported stolen on 8th April 2026, was promptly recovered,” the statement added.
The command said the suspect had made useful statements, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend his fleeing accomplice.
In another operation on April 22, 2026, police acted on a complaint by a resident, Olowolafe of Araromi Street, Akure, whose red Boxer motorcycle had been stolen.
The police said operatives tracked and arrested one Raji Akeem at Shasha while he was allegedly attempting to dispose of the stolen motorcycle.
The statement added that the suspect had been attacked by an angry mob before police officers intervened.
“The suspect had been severely assaulted by an irate mob before police intervention and is currently receiving medical attention under police custody,” it said.
The stolen motorcycle was recovered and secured as an exhibit.
In a separate case, police said a sustained investigation into a report made on October 14, 2025, led to the arrest of one Adedigba Adeola, who allegedly deceived a commercial motorcyclist into surrendering his motorcycle under the guise of a trip.
According to the police, the suspect initially denied the allegation but later confessed during interrogation.
“He further revealed that he concealed the motorcycle in an uncompleted building for four days before selling it to one Danjuma Gideon of Canon Adeyemi Road, Ondo,” the statement said.
The command said efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen motorcycle and arrest other suspects connected to the case.
Police added that intelligence gathering, surveillance, and patrols had been intensified across identified hotspots in the state.
