POLICE CONFIRM 30 POLITICAL KILLINGS AHEAD OF OSUN GOVERNORSHIP POLL
The Nigeria Police Force in Osun State has confirmed the killing of 30 people in politically motivated violence as the state prepares for its governorship election.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Adesuyi Femi, disclosed the figure during a security briefing, expressing concern over the rising incidents of targeted attacks on politicians, supporters, and community leaders. “We have recorded 30 deaths linked to political rivalries. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” he warned.
Security agencies have intensified patrols and intelligence gathering to prevent further bloodshed. The commissioner urged political parties to caution their members and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
The development has heightened anxiety ahead of the poll, with stakeholders calling for peaceful campaigns and stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.
Political observers have appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security forces to ensure a credible and violence-free election.
