POLICE CLARIFY WHEREABOUTS OF MISSING MAKURDI DOCTOR

The Benue State Police Command has clarified reports concerning the disappearance of the Medical Director of Multicare Hospital, Makurdi, Dr Jonah Ogbaji, saying he was arrested and not abducted.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, said Ogbaji was arrested at his hospital on Wednesday by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad attached to the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.

According to the police, the arrest was connected to an ongoing investigation, although the state command said it was not aware of the specific circumstances surrounding the case.

Reports of the doctor’s alleged abduction had circulated on social media after he was reportedly taken from his hospital along Ankpa Road, Makurdi, while attending to patients.

Ogbaji’s daughter had earlier told journalists that her father was taken away by men who claimed to be security operatives. She said the family initially visited several police stations in Makurdi while trying to establish his whereabouts.

However, the police described the abduction reports as false and advised members of the public to disregard them.

The command said further details about the investigation were not immediately available.
