The Yobe State Police Command says its operatives have uncovered a criminal syndicate specializing in stealing mobile phones and ATM cards.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that nine members of the group were arrested following multiple complaints from victims of phone snatching, internet fraud, and unauthorized bank withdrawals.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes and demonstrated some of the tactics used to steal and manipulate victims’ phones to retrieve PIN codes and passwords for fraudulent transactions,” the statement added.

Recovered items from the suspects include twelve Android phones and other valuables used in carrying out their illegal activities.

The police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.

The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, commended the operatives for their efforts and urged them to maintain the momentum.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to keeping criminal elements under control and ensuring that Yobe State remains unsafe for criminals.

Ado also cautioned hotel operators against providing shelter for suspects, warning that anyone found aiding or harboring criminals would face legal consequences.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
