POLICE ASSURE ANAMBRA RESIDENTS OF SAFETY AHEAD OF PEACEFUL BYE-ELECTIONS
The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security measures across key areas in preparation for Saturday’s bye-elections in the state.
The elections are scheduled to hold in the Anambra South Senatorial District to elect a senator, and in the Onitsha North 1 constituency for a seat in the State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said reinforcements have been deployed to bolster the existing security framework, with the goal of ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and credible electoral process.
“As part of preparations for the upcoming bye-election, there is a massive deployment of personnel and operational assets to flashpoints and other strategic locations. This is to guarantee security before, during, and after the elections,” the statement noted.
The Supervisory Officer overseeing the elections, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Godwin Eze, assured the public of adequate security throughout the exercise.
He also encouraged residents of Anambra to be law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and participate in the electoral process without fear or intimidation.
Ikenga further reaffirmed the command’s dedication to neutrality, professionalism, and the protection of lives and property during the elections.
