The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two female suspects, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, in connection with the disappearance of 16-year-old Oluebube Chukwuma from Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

The arrests were made on Monday by operatives of the Ozubulu Division following intelligence-led investigations, the police said in a statement on Tuesday. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the girl’s disappearance and revealed that she is currently in Ghana.

The statement added, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for discreet and comprehensive investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the relocation of the girl and to identify any other person(s) involved. Further updates will be provided as the investigations progress.”

This case comes amid ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Police to combat child abduction and trafficking. Earlier reports indicated the arrest of a 28-year-old man, Friday Akonobi, in a separate case involving the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a six-year-old girl linked to a suspected native doctor in Enugu.

The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of children and urged the public to provide information on suspicious activities to aid ongoing investigations.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
