POLICE ARREST TWO, RECOVER ILLICIT DRUGS IN ENUGU OPERATIONS
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered quantities of substances believed to be variants of Cannabis sativa during separate operations in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Friday, describing the operations as part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and illicit drug trafficking across the state.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Surveillance Team of the Agbani Area Command raided a suspected drug hideout at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East on May 21, 2026, at about 6:25 a.m., leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Ani James.
Ndukwe said the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation that he was involved in the sale of substances known as “Loud,” “Colos,” and other variants of Cannabis sativa. Several sachets and wraps containing the suspected substances were recovered during the operation.
In a separate operation conducted on May 16, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., police operatives acting on intelligence arrested 50-year-old Edeh Ikechukwu at Isigwe Ugbawka, also in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Large quantities of weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa were reportedly recovered from the suspect.
According to the police, Ikechukwu allegedly confessed to engaging in the illicit drug trade for about five years.
The command said investigations into both cases are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and drug trafficking activities in the state.
He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support efforts to tackle crime and improve public safety across Enugu State.
