Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja Division, have arrested two suspected armed robbers after they were allegedly caught in the act of dispossessing unsuspecting residents around the Shoprite Ikeja and Maryland axis.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Segun Adeyemi and 24-year-old Abayomi Ajayi, were said to be part of a three-man gang that operated using a motorcycle.

According to the police, the incident occurred on September 29, 2025, at about 7:15 p.m., when a distress call alerted operatives that the gang was attacking people in the area. Officers swiftly mobilised to the scene, where two suspects were arrested, while the third managed to escape.

The operational motorcycle used by the gang was also recovered as evidence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang had come from Mushin to Ikeja to carry out their criminal activities before being intercepted. Efforts are currently underway to track down the fleeing suspect and other accomplices.

The suspects are in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift and coordinated response of the operatives and thanked members of the public whose timely information made the arrests possible.

He further urged residents to continue providing credible and prompt information to security agencies, stressing that community-police collaboration is key to tackling crime in Lagos.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
