The police have arrested three suspected vandals and recovered stolen railway tracks valued at approximately ₦200 million during an operation in Oyo State.

According to the police command, the arrests followed credible intelligence that led operatives to a location where the stolen railway materials were allegedly being concealed.

The recovered rail tracks were believed to have been removed illegally from railway infrastructure, an act authorities said poses serious risks to public safety and the nation’s transportation system.

Police said the suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators as efforts continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the alleged vandalism.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and warned that anyone involved in vandalising public assets would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

Authorities noted that attacks on railway facilities disrupt transportation services, cause economic losses, and endanger the lives of commuters and railway workers.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence-led operations to curb the theft and destruction of government infrastructure across the country.

The police also appealed to members of the public to report suspicious activities around railway installations and other public facilities to the nearest security agency.

Officials commended the officers involved in the operation, describing the recovery as a significant step in the fight against infrastructure vandalism.

The command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that all those linked to the alleged crime will be brought to justice.
