POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED N8.41M VISA FRAUDSTER IN OSUN
The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man, Ojo David Oluwasesan, for allegedly defrauding victims of N8,410,000 under the pretense of processing travel visas.
The Command also cautioned the public to exercise vigilance when dealing with travel agents.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, representing Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, said the suspect allegedly deceived unsuspecting individuals by presenting himself as a travel agent capable of securing visas.
According to the statement, the fraud reportedly occurred in January 2025, when two complainants were introduced to the suspect by a friend. Believing his claims, the victims gave him N3,600,000 to process visas and tickets for travel to Luxembourg in the United Kingdom.
Instead of fulfilling the agreement, the suspect allegedly absconded with the money and became unreachable.
Further investigations revealed additional victims, with the suspect reportedly defrauding them of N4,810,000. This brings the total alleged amount obtained by false pretenses to N8,410,000.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives immediately launched an intelligence-led investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest. He subsequently confessed to the crime,” DSP Ojelabi stated.
The suspect has been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility pending further legal proceedings.
The Police Command urged members of the public to verify the credentials of travel agents before engaging their services to avoid falling prey to fraud.
