POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER IN AKWA IBOM
** **
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, identified as Ini Mfon, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a distress alert received by the police in the early hours of September 14, 2026, after a violent attack was reported at Ikot Ekweng Village. According to the command, officers on patrol were directed to the area following the report.
The police said an inspector, identified as Henry, reported that Mfon allegedly attacked him with a machete while attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle. The officer sustained an injury to his right hand during the incident.
Following the report, police operatives traced the suspect to his residence, where he was arrested. A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, said detectives were investigating the source of the recovered items and examining whether they had been used in previous criminal activities.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting investigators as the command works to determine whether he has links to other criminal groups operating within or outside Ibiono Ibom.
