POLICE ARREST SUSPECT OVER N3M KIDNAP THREAT IN OYO

** **The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with alleged threats to kidnap and kill a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki, and members of his family.

The victim, Metu Jilani, reportedly received threatening calls on September 13 and reported the matter to the police on September 19. According to the police, the callers claimed they had been contracted to abduct and kill him and his family and demanded N3m.

The suspects reportedly provided the account of a Point-of-Sale operator in Kwara State for the payment. Jilani instead transferred N100,000, which investigators used to trace those attempting to withdraw the money.

Police said Hantsi Abdullahi and Hantsi Liman went to the POS operator on September 18 to collect the money. Abdullahi was arrested, while Liman escaped.

The police said Abdullahi was subsequently attacked by a mob before officers intervened and took him to hospital, where he remains on admission.

The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and identify other persons who may be connected to the alleged threat. The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation into the case.
