The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, after a video circulated online showing him engaging in dangerous driving that resulted in a crash during a live broadcast.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the arrest followed widespread public condemnation of the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

Authorities explained that the influencer’s actions posed a serious risk to lives, prompting immediate intervention to prevent further harm.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat, aka ‘PELLER’, for further investigation following a viral video from Sunday, December 14, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, causing a road crash and serious accident while live-streaming, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement partly read.

The command emphasized that the behaviour was highly irresponsible and could have resulted in fatalities, either for the suspect or for unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.

“His actions constitute a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endanger the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added.

The police noted that the case file has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.

“The matter is now under investigation by the SCID. The outcome will be made public, and the suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction according to the law,” the statement said.

The police also reported that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, took the opportunity to caution social media influencers and the public against using digital platforms to promote illegal or dangerous acts.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly warns social media influencers, content creators, and the public against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless, hazardous, or unlawful activities,” the statement read.

He reiterated that such acts would attract strict legal consequences and affirmed the command’s dedication to impartial law enforcement.

“Lawlessness of this nature will not be tolerated, and offenders will face the full weight of the law. The Command urges all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public safety at all times.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
