The police have arrested Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), alongside several other protesters in Abuja.

Ejimakor made the disclosure on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that he and others were apprehended by officers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.

“We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT COMMAND CID. Myself, Fine Boy and others. No 1 Zaria Street, Gariki 2, Abuja,” he posted.

Earlier, Ejimakor had accused security operatives of using teargas to disperse protesters who had gathered peacefully in Abuja to demand Kanu’s release. He noted that the incident caused severe irritation to his eyes and throat.

The protest, held on Monday, was part of renewed efforts by Kanu’s supporters urging the Federal Government to obey existing court rulings ordering his release.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, despite several court judgments calling for his freedom. His continued detention has sparked nationwide debates and periodic demonstrations across southeastern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
