The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with separate cases of murder and armed robbery across the state.

In a statement released on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Shi’isu Adam revealed that 40-year-old Iliyasu Musa, from Dangewaye Village in Aujara District, was arrested for allegedly murdering his ex-wife, 30-year-old Hadiza Sale of Afasha Village.

The statement noted that Musa had been on the run since July 10, 2025, the date the crime was reportedly committed. He allegedly ambushed his ex-wife near her home, attacking her with a stick as she returned from the market late at night. The former couple had six children together.

“The suspect was eventually tracked down and arrested on July 23, 2025, in Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village, where he had been hiding,” the statement said. “He is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, ahead of his arraignment.”

In a separate incident, police arrested 20-year-old Alpha Samaila from Sabuwar Unguwa, Roni Local Government Area, over an armed robbery case.

Samaila was allegedly part of a gang that broke into the home of Abubakar Yahaya, assaulted him, stabbed him with a sharp object, and stole N170,000 along with a Tecno Hot 40i smartphone.

The PPRO reported that the attack occurred around 4:30 a.m. on July 21, 2025. Police responded swiftly to a distress call and visited the crime scene. Yahaya was taken to the Roni Primary Health Care Centre for treatment and later discharged.

Commending the swift response of officers from the Aujara and Roni Divisions, Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad praised their dedication and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent and solve crimes.

“The Jigawa State Police Command remains vigilant and proactive in its security operations,” the statement read. “We are dedicated to upholding professionalism, integrity, and transparency while working toward a safer and more secure society.”

The police also called on the public to share any information that may assist in locating fleeing suspects, reiterating their commitment to keeping citizens informed of ongoing investigations and progress in crime-fighting efforts.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
