POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS FOR MOTORCYCLE THEFT IN NIGER STATE
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended four suspects involved in a series of motorcycle thefts across different parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests were made in Kwamba, Bida, and Katcha, following coordinated operations by the command.
According to the PPRO, the first case occurred on October 3, 2025, around 9 p.m., when 23-year-old Michael Isah of the BYJ area, Kwamba, allegedly fled with his friend’s TVS motorcycle (registration number ABJ 402 MV) valued at over ₦1 million.
Police operatives from Maje Division acted swiftly, and by the following morning, October 4, they recovered the stolen bike from Abubakar Sadiq Mutawakil of Kwamba, who was reportedly trying to sell it.
“He was promptly arrested and confessed to the crime, leading to the arrest of the principal suspect, Michael Isah, who gave him the motorcycle to dispose of,” Abiodun said.
In a separate operation, on October 2, around 4:30 p.m., officers from ‘A’ Division, Bida, arrested 23-year-old Adamu Mohammed of Masaba area with a TVS motorcycle (GWA 346 VZ) suspected to be stolen. The suspect confessed to stealing it from Ndasako village in Wushishi LGA, and the rightful owner later confirmed the theft.
That same day, around 8 a.m., operatives from Katcha Division arrested Abubakar Mohammed of Gudungu village while riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle without a key along the Agaie–Katcha road.
“He confessed to stealing the motorcycle from Cheche village in Katcha. The case is still under investigation,” Abiodun added.
The police spokesperson assured residents that all the suspects would be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling theft and related crimes across Niger State.
