POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN EDO
The Edo State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and a 52-year-old Islamic teacher over alleged links to kidnapping activities in the northern part of the state.
The suspects were paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daor, on Tuesday. Police said the suspected kidnappers were arrested in Niger State following intelligence gathering and investigations into criminal activities around Auchi, Jattu and Okpella.
The Islamic teacher, identified as Jubril Ibrahim, was accused of allegedly preparing charms for members of the group. However, Ibrahim denied the allegation, saying he only prayed for one of the suspects after being approached by the man’s mother because of his frequent travels.
One of the suspected kidnappers, 24-year-old Ahmadu Suleiman, reportedly admitted participating in a kidnapping operation in Auchi. He also claimed to have worked with different kidnapping groups before returning to Niger State.
The police said the arrests followed intelligence-led efforts to track suspected criminals operating across state boundaries.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into their alleged activities and possible links to other criminal networks.
The command said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and in accordance with the law.
