The Delta State Police Command has arrested Chief Omorede Sunday, organiser of the Oramudu Festival in Ozoro community, alongside four others, following allegations of sexual assault and molestation of young women during the event.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, strongly condemned the incident, describing acts of sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a serious violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.
In response to the allegations, the police boss ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probe.
“Tactical and investigative assets have been deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals found culpable,” the statement read.
The Command called on members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to come forward with credible information that could assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all disclosures would be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
Commissioner Adesola also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, upholding citizens’ rights, and maintaining public order.
The police reiterated their firm stance against sexual violence, assuring that all those found involved in the incident will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
