POLICE ARREST COUPLE, WOMAN FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF PISTOL IN LAGOS
Lagos Police Nab Couple and One Other with Illegal Firearm During Stop-and-Search
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a couple and another woman for the unlawful possession of a semi-automatic pistol in the Ipaja area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who shared the update via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @BenHundeyin.
According to him, officers from the Ipaja Division stopped the women during a routine stop-and-search operation and insisted on checking the contents of their bags.
“While conducting a routine search, officers intercepted two women and insisted on examining the contents of their bags,” Hundeyin stated.
The search led to the shocking discovery of a semi-automatic pistol. Upon interrogation, one of the women revealed that the gun belonged to her husband. Police quickly tracked him down and took him into custody as well.
The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation to determine how the suspects came into possession of the weapon and whether it has been used in any criminal activities.
CSP Hundeyin concluded,
“That is one less illegal firearm in circulation.”
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Lagos Police to keep unlicensed firearms off the streets and ensure public safety through strategic stop-and-search operations.
