Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 60-year-old man for the alleged defilement of a minor.

The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the police station by the victim’s family. Police say investigations have begun into the incident, which occurred in Bauchi.

The minor is said to be receiving medical care and psychosocial support from child protection officers. Authorities are working to ensure her well-being while the case is being investigated.

The Bauchi State Police Command described the offence as very serious and assured the public that the suspect will be prosecuted if found guilty. They also urged residents to report any cases of child sexual abuse promptly.

Defilement and sexual abuse of minors continue to be a major concern in parts of the country. Child rights advocates have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of laws and more community awareness to protect children.

The 60-year-old man remains in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to be charged to court once police conclude their preliminary investigation.

Parents and guardians in the state have been advised to be more vigilant and pay closer attention to the safety of their children.
