POLICE ARREST 20-YEAR-OLD OVER ALLEGED DEFILEMENT AND THEFT IN BAUCHI

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Isiyaku Usman, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl and theft of her mobile phones in Darazo Local Government Area of the state. The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, saying the incident was reported by the victim’s 37-year-old father, a resident of Kari village.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly lured the child into an uncompleted building on September 6 before dispossessing her of two mobile phones and sexually assaulting her. The circumstances surrounding how the suspect gained access to the child and the precise sequence of events remain part of the ongoing investigation by the command.

Following the report, police operatives arrested Usman and commenced an investigation into the allegations. The victim and the suspect were both taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical examinations as part of the process of documenting evidence relating to the case. Their statements were also obtained by investigators, according to the police.

The command said the investigation would determine the full circumstances of the incident and establish the appropriate charges against the suspect. Police authorities have continued to emphasise the importance of promptly reporting cases involving children and other vulnerable persons to enable security agencies to intervene and preserve evidence.

The arrest comes as the Bauchi Police Command continues operations against various forms of crime across the state. The suspect remains in police custody while investigators work to conclude the case and determine the next legal steps. The allegations against him remain subject to investigation and due process.
