The Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory has arrested 14 suspected car thieves and dismantled a robbery syndicate, recovering 17 stolen vehicles in the process.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out across key areas including Mabushi, Durumi, Maitama, and the Central Police Station.

According to him, the suspects were linked to multiple crimes such as vehicles snatched at gunpoint, cars stolen from parking locations, and vehicles used for criminal operations. Some of the recovered vehicles have already been returned to their owners.

The police also foiled a “one chance” robbery operation on April 10 after intercepting a suspicious vehicle. During the encounter, suspects opened fire, but officers responded, arresting one while others fled.

Two female victims were rescued from the vehicle, where they had been tied up. One of them alleged she was raped during the incident. A fleeing suspect was later tracked down and identified by the victims.

Sanusi added that the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

He also disclosed that a content creator had been arraigned for allegedly spreading false information about insecurity in Abuja, warning residents against circulating unverified security reports.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling car theft and robbery in the capital, urging the public to cooperate by providing credible information to security agencies.
