POCO LEE’S UK CASE PUTS NIGERIAN ENTERTAINERS ON ALERT OVER CONSENT

Nigerian entertainers travelling to the United Kingdom have been urged to exercise greater caution following the remand of popular dancer and hypeman, Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, over alleged sexual offences.

Poco Lee is currently in custody in the UK after appearing before Snaresbrook Crown Court in London, where he faces five charges comprising one count of attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration. He has not been convicted of the allegations.

The case has been scheduled for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 15, 2026. The court has also imposed a reporting restriction aimed at protecting the identity of the complainant.

Poco Lee had travelled to Britain to attend the Davido and Friends event held at Crystal Palace Bowl on August 14. His subsequent legal situation has attracted considerable attention within Nigeria’s entertainment industry and generated conversations about the importance of understanding and respecting consent while abroad.

The development has also prompted some Nigerian entertainers in the UK to publicly emphasise the need for caution in their interactions with women.

Singer Koko Pee, whose real name is Okokowa Jerry, recently shared a video showing what he described as “intention forms” and “consent forms”. He explained that the documents were intended to establish that any woman who chooses to engage with him does so voluntarily and while in a sober state.

Although poco lee presented the idea in a humorous manner, the move has contributed to the wider discussion about consent and personal responsibility among Nigerian entertainers working or socialising in the UK.

Streamer and content creator Carter Efe has similarly attracted warnings from some of his followers after videos of him socialising with women in London circulated online. Some social media users referenced Poco Lee’s case while urging him to be careful about his conduct.

Singer Portable, who is also currently in the UK, has likewise been cautioned by some fans over his interactions with female admirers.

The reactions have highlighted concerns among entertainers and their followers about the legal consequences that can arise from sexual or romantic encounters, particularly in foreign countries where laws and legal procedures may differ from those in Nigeria.

Poco Lee’s case has therefore become a talking point within the Nigerian entertainment community, with calls for celebrities to exercise greater awareness of consent, personal conduct and the legal environment in countries they visit.

As the September 15 hearing approaches, the legal proceedings against Poco Lee are expected to continue, while the entertainment industry watches the case closely.
