PLATEAU ROAD BUILT FOR N12M COLLAPSES AFTER ONE YEAR, GROUP RAISES ALARM

A road project in Plateau State, awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in 2024 for N12 million, has reportedly collapsed just one year after completion, sparking public outrage and concerns over the quality of infrastructure delivery in Nigeria.

The road, which connects Kogin Kasar Wase to Tofar, was meant to be resurfaced and dressed to improve access for residents. However, according to civic tech group TrackaNG, the project has already been washed away by flooding, leaving major portions of the road impassable.

In a report posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, TrackaNG revealed that the project was poorly executed and appears abandoned, despite being fully funded in the 2024 federal budget.

“This is a classic case of shoddy execution,” the group stated. “The road has deteriorated significantly, with parts completely broken down and no longer motorable.”

TrackaNG has now called on the Federal Ministry of Works, particularly its Roads Department (@FedRoadsNGR), to make full details of the project public and compel the contractor, Sahar Continental Ltd, to return and fix the road.

The incident has fueled fresh debate on accountability in public infrastructure projects, where contractors often get paid but deliver substandard work with little to no consequences.

“This situation reflects a larger problem,” the group added. “Citizens are demanding transparency, quality control, and stricter oversight to ensure taxpayers get value for their money.”

The affected residents are also calling on the government to act swiftly and restore the road, which they say is critical to their daily transportation, commerce, and access to services.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
