PLATEAU RAISES THE ALARM OVER RISING HUMAN TRAFFICKING CASES

The Plateau State Government has expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of human trafficking in the state, calling for collaborative efforts to combat the menace.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while addressing a stakeholders’ meeting, highlighted the vulnerability of young people, especially women and children, to traffickers who exploit economic hardships and lack of opportunities. “Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights. We must all rise to protect our citizens,” the governor said.

The state has recorded a surge in cases involving forced labour, sexual exploitation, and illegal migration. Security agencies and civil society organisations have been tasked with intensifying awareness campaigns and intelligence gathering.

Plateau authorities have appealed to communities to be vigilant and report suspicious activities. The government also plans to strengthen partnerships with neighbouring states and international agencies to tackle cross-border trafficking networks.

The alarm comes as human trafficking remains a significant challenge across parts of Nigeria, often linked to poverty and weak law enforcement.
