Plateau Muslims Reject MURIC’s Claims, Say Governor Mutfwang Has Been Fair to All

A Muslim group in Plateau State has strongly condemned a recent statement by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), accusing it of spreading falsehood and stirring division.

The Plateau chapter of the Coalition of Concerned Muslims, in a press release signed by its chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, distanced itself from MURIC's claim that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s call for the withdrawal of military troops from volatile areas was a plot to target Muslims.

The group described the comment, made by MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, as “baseless, reckless, and inflammatory.” According to them, Akintola’s statement does not reflect the reality on the ground or the experiences of Muslims living in the state.

“It’s shocking and disheartening that a respected religious figure would attempt to incite division with such careless remarks,” Adamu said. “Governor Mutfwang’s appeal was purely aimed at restoring calm following deadly attacks, not religiously motivated.”

The coalition praised Governor Mutfwang for promoting unity, fairness, and inclusion since taking office. They noted that Muslim communities in Plateau have experienced more respect, freedom, and development under his leadership.

“Appointments are now based on merit, not religion. Projects like roads, schools, and water schemes have reached our communities. Our annual Hajj pilgrimages have been better organized and supported than ever before,” the statement added.

Muslim leaders, the coalition emphasized, have been able to openly engage with the governor and raise issues respectfully — something they say was not always possible in the past.

The group warned Akintola to stop meddling in Plateau’s affairs, urging him to use his platform to build unity, not incite conflict.

“Nigeria needs healing, not hatred. We urge Muslims nationwide to ignore MURIC’s statement — it doesn’t speak for us. Here in Plateau, we stand with Governor Mutfwang because we’ve seen his fairness and commitment to peace.”

The message was clear: Muslims in Plateau are not buying into MURIC’s narrative, and they are calling for calm, unity, and responsible leadership — both in words and actions.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
