PLATEAU MUSLIM GROUP ACCUSES GOVERNOR MUTFWANG OF NEGLECT, SELECTIVE SYMPATHY

A group known as the Plateau State Muslim Indigenes (PSMI) has accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of ignoring the suffering of Muslim communities affected by recent violent attacks in parts of the state.

In a statement released on Monday, the group’s Secretary General, Alhaji Kabiru Gwamlar, expressed deep concern over what he described as Governor Mutfwang’s “selective empathy” in responding to security crises. He pointed out that while the Governor has been vocal and quick to condemn attacks on Christian communities, he has remained largely silent about the deadly attacks in Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas — where over 70 vigilante members were reportedly killed and several villages destroyed.

Gwamlar said the Governor has failed to visit or offer condolences to the affected Muslim families, calling his response “belated and half-hearted” whenever Muslim communities are attacked.

He reminded the Governor of his constitutional duty to protect all citizens — regardless of their religion or ethnic background — and warned against creating a sense of exclusion among residents.

The group also challenged the lingering perception that Plateau is a "Christian state," emphasizing that Nigeria is a secular country where every citizen, whether Christian, Muslim, or traditional worshipper, has equal rights to live and practice their faith.

PSMI praised former Governor Simon Lalong, describing him as inclusive and respectful of religious diversity, and called on Governor Mutfwang to follow his example and ensure all communities are treated fairly.

The statement has sparked debate across the state, with many residents urging the government to adopt a more balanced and unifying approach in handling security and community issues.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
