PLATEAU GOVERNOR PARDONS 130 INMATES ON INDEPENDENCE DAY
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has granted an absolute pardon to 130 inmates as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The governor also commuted the death sentences of four inmates to life imprisonment. He announced the decisions on Thursday in his Independence Day message to Plateau residents and Nigerians at home and abroad.
Mutfwang said the exercise followed consultations with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and was carried out under powers granted to him by the Nigerian Constitution.
The four inmates whose sentences were reduced to life imprisonment are Zuhumnan Musa, Jeremiah Aese, Pam Lang and Thoma Danboyi.
The governor described the Independence anniversary as an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, recognise its challenges and renew their commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
He urged citizens to preserve Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty, stressing that nation-building was a shared responsibility across generations.
Mutfwang also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a Plateau State where residents can pursue their aspirations in an environment of peace, security, justice and inclusive development.
He commended Plateau residents for their resilience and contributions to the development of the state and encouraged them to remain committed to the country despite its challenges.
