PLATEAU GOV. MUTFWANG TO RECRUIT 1,000 YOUTHS FOR COMMUNITY POLICING
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced plans to recruit over 1,000 youths into the state’s community policing initiative, Operation Rainbow, as part of efforts to strengthen security across local communities.
The governor made this known on Sunday during a service at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Jos, to mark the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, an event attended by judicial officers, clergy, and legal practitioners.
Governor Mutfwang described the gathering as one of thanksgiving and renewal, acknowledging the resilience of the judiciary despite facing numerous challenges.
“When we assumed office, we met a judiciary weighed down by numerous challenges. Yet, you have remained steadfast, discharging your duties with courage and dignity,” he said.
He further assured that steps have been taken to improve the welfare of retired judges, noting that the state has begun paying their outstanding entitlements and will complete the process in due course.
Turning to security, the governor said the new recruits under Operation Rainbow will serve directly in their home communities, working alongside conventional security agencies to provide both the first and last line of defense against insecurity.
“By the grace of God, we will soon recruit over 1,000 youths who will be posted back to their communities as both the first and last line of defense, complementing conventional security agencies,” Governor Mutfwang said.
He also reminded judicial officers of the need to exercise discretion responsibly, stressing that misused discretion carries both moral and spiritual consequences.
