PLANE SHOWDOWN: NCAA SAYS STOPPING AN AIRCRAFT IS ‘TERRORISM’
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has strongly condemned popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal—better known as K1 De Ultimate—for attempting to block a Value Jet aircraft from taking off in Lagos last Tuesday.
Speaking on Arise TV, NCAA spokesman Mike Achimugu said the action was not only reckless but, in many countries, would be classified as an act of terrorism.
“Your first responsibility at the airport is to respect and obey instructions from officials on the ground. What he did is unacceptable. In most climes, it’s considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off—there is nothing that excuses it,” Achimugu stressed.
The incident, which shocked many passengers and aviation staff, has triggered an official investigation. According to Achimugu, more questions will be answered as the probe continues.
Meanwhile, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has placed K1 De Ultimate on a no-fly list pending the outcome of the investigation—a rare move that underscores the seriousness of the matter.
Aviation authorities are warning travelers that interfering with airport or flight operations is a criminal offence that carries heavy penalties, not just in Nigeria, but worldwide.
